The Kentucky FireWire (News, Information and Resources)

Be Healthy, Be Stronger, Be Inpired

On Wednesday, October 17th, 2001, Firefighter Tim Whalin, 26, the publisher of the Kentucky Fire Wire, passed away following an illness.

Tim had been a valuable and active member of the Harrods Creek Fire Department since 1995 and his accomplishments include becoming an EMT, apparatus operator, director of the Harrods Creek Explorer program, and webmaster of Harrods Creek's web site.

Due to illness Tim required a double lung transplant after which he fought back to return to active service as as apparatus operator. Tim received the 1998 Chief's Award, 1998 Harrods Creek Firefighter of the Year and in 1999 was awarded the Scott Hamilton Memorial Award for Leadership.

Tim touched many people's lives both within and outside of the emergency services family. Tim was a true friend to many people and will be greatly missed.

About the Fire Wire: The Kentucky Fire Wire is owned and operated with pride by Melanie Hilliard, a Former Henry & Jefferson County, KY firefighter/EMT who enjoys being a unique and important source of information for fellow firefighters.
The purpose of this site is to act as an avenue for communication throughout the Kentucky fire services.  The Internet provides us with a fast and easy way to speak to other Kentucky fire personnel.  This site relies on information provided by Kentucky fire service people like you and is just for Kentucky fire/EMS people - It's for Kentucky firefighters, by Kentucky firefighters.
Use this site to make announcements, show off your apparatus, fire station. Display your patch, find other departments in the state, locate upcoming fire schools, find links to other fire service sites, find a job and find or sell fire stuff in the classifieds, see what fire service people under the age of 18 have to say on the Explorers' Page. Feel free to submit information today.

Fitness Training

My goal is to reach all emergency service personnel to provide the tools needed to address this serious health hazard through exercise.

Together, we can be prepared to handle whatever emergency situation arises tomorrow.  "While we can not change the past, we can use it to motivate us to pave the way for a brighter future."

Yours in health,
Todd Platner
