A large plywood board now covers the front door where firefighters had to kick their way into a Versailles home Sunday morning, where a small fire was burning.

Officials say it wasn't until the flames were out before they found a body inside. The Woodford County coroner has not positively identified the body, but friends say it is Zachary Morgan, who was found inside.

Later Sunday afternoon, friends rallied around one another, offering a hand to help repair Morgan's home damaged in the fire.

"The firemen had to kick the doors in, so we're trying to get this house boarded back up," explained Greg Meanes, a friend of the victim.

Even hours later, those close to Morgan, like Meanes, are still at a loss as to what happened to his friend.

"I don't know what happened, I walked down here to see if I could find out."

"It doesn't look like, from the outside, there was a fire, but there is a a lot of heat and smoke damage inside the house," described Lt. Daniel Clark of the Versailles Police Department.

Investigators at the scene, are looking into what happened behind these doors, and they say it wasn't until the flames were out before they found a body inside.

"Upon extinguishing the fire, they found the victim inside the residence," said Lt. Jim Adkins of the Versailles Fire Department.

Meanes and others close to Morgan say he was a man with a big heart and a love for others.

"We're going to miss him."

And they say their friend was always a part of the cookouts and hunting trips and now those events just won't be the same.

"He's a good friend and he cared about a lot of people," added Meanes.

Friends say Morgan leaves behind three children.
